Maybe this is an SP2 thing. Help actually says you can't turn it off. There is no Windows Indexing Service listed in Services only Windows Ssearch which does not turn off the incessant and time consuming "green line of death" in Explorer. The fact is Microsoft did it again..... found the best way to slow your PC down. Created the worst search possible. And won't let you turn it off. Bring back Windows 3 search at least you could ask for pictures and video files and at least you got the advanced menu upfront (before you made a failed search). You cannot turn windows indexing off. Vista IS dead slow. I hope Vista is really a "work in progess" and Windows 7 will truly replace Vista and my faith that everything's will be back to "normal" (whatever that means!) - Some people say that you "common users" don't know how to configure Vista - Sure... if Vista is so user friendly how come you have to have that many knowledge to get it to run properly? I've been in this industry for many time now as a professional programmer and I fail to see where are the improvements on Vista over XP. Extra security? No, not really - Anoying security, for sure! Smoother graphical interaction? Sorry, can't see nothing good in this area. Let's see what's left... Ah... bigger hard disk required, for sure! Polished UI? Yeah, so polished that makes me confused! (and it's slow - already disabled it). Sorry, but my idea of an upgrade is to get something better, not something that only looks better. Waiting for Windows 7 to fix this one big M$ mess. I don't really want to change my default printer and can't find a way to stop vista from searching. In xp you could turn it off but that shell was removed in vista. Anybody have any ideas? Install XP Pro on same machine and its like lightning !
